Farewell to a Pal - MOJO353

Farewell to a Pal - MOJO353

I was saddened this evening when I learned of the passing of a fellow Stampin' Up! Demonstrator, a fellow down line of Mary Fish and part of our Pals group. Though I only knew her through our online exchanges, I followed her as she battled cancer and hoped and prayed for her during all of the ups and downs that brings.

As I went through my evening ritual of chores with a heavy heart, I thought that perhaps the process of making a card for her family would lift my spirits. I chose this color combination with the grays as a neutral palette but also a bright cheerful color because that's how Edna was. ALWAYS upbeat, popping up on FB with cheerful comments and well wishes and a fighter to the end. I am glad I got to share a bit of her for awhile as now I will always carry a bit of her sunshine in my heart :) Thank you, Edna, you will be missed.

Mojo Monday was the inspiration for the layout and fellow Pal, Kerry Willard Bray, was the color inspiration.

Perfect Notecards...

Perfect Notecards...

Aren't these fun? These are the Watercolor Wonder Designer Note Cards & Envelopes found on page 23 of the Occasions Catalog. I purchased these awhile ago but wasn't quite sure how to use them. Then a co-worker mentioned that she liked to keep cards in her desk at work, just in case. And it clicked! These would be PERFECT for that!

So I sat down to put them together. I wanted to keep it simple so that if you do not own a lot of stamping product, you could still make these quickly and easily. I limited myself to ONE stamp set so I chose Peaceful Petals for the variety of designs, the sentiments, and the fonts. They just seemed to fit these note cards very well. And the note cards! Wow! They are printed on watercolor paper so  they have SUCH a nice texture to them. Very elegant :) I also kept it to ONE ink so I chose StazOn Black ink. It stamps a nice crisp image and dries almost instantly. Perfect for me, I HATE to wait :)

Don't you think they would be perfect to have on hand for...whatever? And you could still say that you made them...with one stamp set and one ink pad. Oh, and if you are like me and can't commit without seeing it first, you should also purchase the Stamp-a-ma-Jig. It allows you to see the placement of your image BEFORE you stamp! Money well spent!

So then I thought...these would make a perfect gift! How can I package them? Well...it turns out that our clear envelopes just happen to fit 5 note cards and envelopes perfectly! Who knew?

Perfect Notecards...

Isn't that FUN?!? Okay, when I gussied them up I did add a tag cut with the Big Shot and the Chalk Talk bundle...but isn't it cute? You could easily use either the Angled or Scalloped Tag Topper Punch and hand write the sentiment if you don't own a Big Shot.

So to sum this all up...

You could get all this, with a stamp set and an ink pad, for as little as $2.50 per card, if you make your purchase between April 21st and April 25th and get free shipping. If you purchase two sets of note cards, the price goes down to $1.57 per card. And all you will ever need to do is buy more note cards. Such a deal for a handmade card!

I'm thinking of hostess gifts, teacher gifts, book club gifts, Christmas gifts...so many choices! Who would you make a set for? Please leave me a comment and let me know!

Sweater Weather Sympathy

Living in Southern California, I don't make many fall cards. I enjoy fall and see wonderful pictures of the beautiful colors, but we just don't get much of that here! That being the case, I challenged myself to find other uses for the Sweater Weather Designer Series Paper.

This one came easily as Sahara Sand is a favorite nuetral color of mine. Here I paired it up with Strawberry Slush for just a pop of color. I just love this stamp set and it is framed beautifully by the Deco Labels Collection Framelits. It is a sympathy card but I don't feel that the bright color is out of place here at all. The bow is the perfect finishing touch!

Thank you for stopping by, I will be back on Thursday with my Pals Paper Arts challenge card!

Today I have another sketch for your courtesy of Clean and Simple Stamping:

I really enjoy the lines of these sketches...I had fun with this one!

My card today is a tribute to these retiring colors: Baja Breeze, Riding Hood Red, and Lucky Limeade. If you enjoy these colors, please don't wait to stock up on your supplies as they will only be available while supplies last!

I used the Tastful Trim Bigz Die to create my border layer in Riding Hood Red and then repeated the color in the stamped flower and the sentiment. I also sponged the edges of the border and the sentiment banner to give them both a bit more visual impact.

I made a bow with Baja Breeze Seam Binding Ribbon (which is great to work with) and wrapped the prongs of a Antuque Brad around the center of the bow and then poked the prongs of the brad through a hole I punched in the sentiment banner and then flattened them out.

The prongs on the back of the banner give it a bit of depth so I attached the sentiment banner with Stampin' Dimensionals...and there you have it! A beautifully simple card that can be created in minutes!
