One Layer Happy Birthday - PPA199

One Layer Happy Birthday - PPA199

I recently signed up for an clean and simple card making class. The class has been over for a bit but I finally got around to watching a few of the segments yesterday and just fell in love with this technique...I HAD to try it out!

The principle is simple...using layers of ink rather than layers of paper to give depth and interest to your card. My first layer is almost invisible...squint closely and you can see a chevron pattern stamped in Versamark ink over the white background. Here's a closer look...sorry, it just wouldn't photograph well...but you can see it along the top and particularly in the upper right hand corner. In retrospect, smoky slate probably would have been a better color choice but I wanted to stay within the parameters of the color challenge:)

The next layer of ink consists of multi-colored stars. I dug through my stash of stamps and found the large star in the Perfectly Pennants stamp set, the medium size star in the Simply Stars stamp set, and the little star in the Pennant Parade stamp set. The colors are courtesy of the Pals Paper Arts Color Challenge:

Aren't the colors fabulous? They do such a good job every week to provide us with fun and interesting challenges! And a BIG "THANK YOU" to the team for choosing my card last week as their pick:) I'm so honored!! You can see the care here.

Back to the card...the final layer is my birthday sentiment, stamped in StazOn ink.  The sentiment is from Another Great Year , available in the Occasions catalog...I am really loving these large sentiments! They lend themselves perfectly to one layer cards!

I had a ton of fun using this technique and see lots more of these type cards in my future! I hope you enjoyed the technique as well and find it useful in your own crafting...I would love to hear what you think of it!

Thanks so much for stopping by!
