One Fine Day - CYCI137

Welcome to another edition of the Can You Case It Blog Challenge! This week you are challenged to scrapbook in some way, shape or form. Traditional layouts, Digital Layouts, or with Project Life.

I can officially say that I am in LOVE with digital scrapbooking.  I scrapbooked traditionally for many years before becoming interested in card making a little over four years ago. Since I began making cards, my scrapbooking have sat lonely and relatively unused :( So I have been waging an internal battle for a few years over switching to digital scrapbooking. One part of me has been arguing that I need to use up all of my current supplies first and the other side has been arguing that I will get done ALOT faster and with less pain if I scrapbook digitally.

Today's layout has finally sealed the deal for me. It has been a bit of a learning curve but I now know enough tricks in My Digital Studio to achieve the result I want. My Digital Studio really is a fantastic tool and at $19.95 to purchase, there really is no reason not to. You can even give My Digital Studio a test drive with the free trial version and there are so many tutorials out there on YouTube to get you going. It comes with preloaded pages so all you have to do is load your pictures if you wanted to keep it that simple! And you can send your pages/books to print straight from the program...it really is fantastic!

If you really want to stick with traditional scrapbooking, please consider giving Stampin' Up's Project Life kits a try. They are hands on but are fast and fun to put together and since they coordinate with Stampin' Up! colors, you can use all of your existing inks, ribbons and embellishments to add lots of fun detail. But Stampin' Up's Project Life kits have fun embellishment packs so don't overlook those...I'm sure you will find something you HAVE to have! lol

If you have any questions about techniques or any of the Stampin' Up! products I used on my page, and everything on the page except my picture is a Stampin' Up! product, please feel free to leave a comment or send me an email.

Before I sign off, I wanted to share a two page traditional spread that I created a few (ahem) years ago. As a clue, my boys in these pictures are now 26 and almost 24! Also, you will notice that I have always been a clean and simple kinda girl. With boys I always toned everything down, but in my digital page today, I reveled in all things "girlie" lol

I wanted to share that the journaling on the first page below actually opens op like a book to reveal more journaling underneath. I somehow manged to print it that way, no idea how now. I slit the page protector in the album so that readers could open it up and read the rest of the text :)

I apologize that the two pages are not side-by-side. Unfortunately, that exceeds my technical capabilities :)

My Digital Studio Monday - Week Three

Good Morning and thank you for stopping by for My Digital Studio Monday! Today's layout was inspired by the fun sketch over at Pixel Maven's Digi Challenge:

PMDC-038.jpg

This was a test of my new digital skills for sure! I got stuck making the triangle shape on the right...turns out all you need to do is make a square shape larger than the page and then rotate it to the appropriate angle :) Who would have thought? lol

I chose to showcase one of my favorite photos of my boys, changing the shape from a circle to an oval to accommodate it. I used arrow shapes rather than banners, again highlighting their photo, one arrow for each! The 'great day' sentiment is from a Stampin' Up! digital download stamp set called Moments Ago , I love that I can re-size the sentiment! Most of the other digital elements are from the Stampin' Up! digital kit Hello There. I just love this kit!

After I got my triangle shape DSP on the page I added just a bit of digital stitching to finish it off. And my biggest moment was when I figured out how to get my line of arrows to go on top of the photo but tuck in UNDER the DSP! I actually did a small happy dance around my stamp room - the cats were not impressed :)

I also incorporated the My Digital Studio Challenge #5 - Designing with Arrows into my page as well. I discovered that I only have three arrows in all of my downloads so I will have to add some, but for now I used arrows as bullet points in my journaling. I'm pleased with the effect! Note: I skipped Challenge #4 - Overlay Bonus Challenge as I have used overlays on my past two pages and an overlay didn't quite fit the look I was going for this time...but I do know how to use them!

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you are inspired to take a stab at digital designing for yourself! Or you can just come along with me as I learn, I'm happy to have you along for the ride!

My Digital Studio Monday - Week Two

Welcome to Week Two of My Digital Studio Challenges!

MDS Challenges Week Two.jpg

I decided that with sixty challenges and me just completing numero uno, I had better get moving! So I worked on Challenge #2 - Cropping Stamps/Embellishments and #3 - Coloring with the Freeform Tool for this week's post.

I chose one of the stamps from the Sale-A-Bration digital download One Big Sale-A-Bration 2014* to add to the top and bottom of my pictures on my page. The image has five little flowers on it so I added the image twice and cropped one of them down to just four flowers. Then I re-colored the center of the flowers using the freeform tool, red for the top left to match my mom's dress, and then blue for the bottom right flowers to match her jacket!

This is a fun memory for me as I had just scanned and uploaded all of our family photos right before my niece's high school graduation so while both my mom and I were in town for that we drove to the Red Rocks Ampitheatre to re-create the photo! So fun!

Thank you for stopping by and being with me on my journey to learn to use My Digital Studio to preserve my memories!

*The One Big Sale-A-Bration 2014 Download can be purchased for FREE with any $50 purchase and comes with:

  • 5 stamp brush sets (25 stamps)
  • 12 Sweet Sorbet Designer Series Paper patterns
  • 14-piece accessory pack

What a deal!
