Your Birthday is Big News! - FabFriday 53

It's the trifecta of Fridays here today! One, it's Friday (yay); Two, it's Halloween! (woohoo); and Three, I'm playing along with FabFriday! lol

Here's the awesome sketch I had to work with:

And here's the sweet birthday card I created with it!

Your Birthday is Big News! - FabFriday 53

I used the sketch and this fun pattern paper from the Sweet Taffy Designer Series Paper for my starting point. Next I chose fun colors to go with the Old Olive and ended up choosing Rich Razzleberry and Tempting Turquoise. I love the three of them together!

And I pulled out this fun, fun, fun stamp from the Big News stamp set, it's so perfect to color with Stampin' Markers!

For the next element of the sketch I used a shooting star stamp from the Be the Star stamp set and inked up all the stars individually, again using Stampin' Markers. I stamped it twice and rotated the pattern of stars to fulfill the sketch element.

At the last minute I decided to add two Rich Razzleberry Candy Dots. The jury is still out on whether I think that is the perfect finishing touch. I actually wanted to add a bit of shimmer to the stars but seeing that the card is appropriate for a pre-teen boy, I thought adding shimmer might be a poor choice :)

Another Birthday Surprise - PP214

Hello Stampers! I'm back with you today for with a card for the Paper Players. They had a challenge I just couldn't resist...

I know, right up my alley :)

I created this card in my head while laying in bed trying to sleep and miracle of miracles, it was still there when I woke up, lol. I wanted to use the Birthday Surprise stamp set again but since I just showcased it, I wanted to mix it up a bit.

The word 'Happy' stamped three times in different shades (Night of Navy; Elegant Eggplant; and Early Expresso) and then on the inside...

Ta-Da!!!! What do you think? I was thinking it would be perfect for a co-worker, boss, kid's teacher, coach, or piano teacher...I think I will make a few up to keep on hand! To save you some time, do not try this with Crumb Cake. I used that as my base card first and the Elegant Eggplant was completed washed out. Just trying to save you from making THAT particular mistake:)

And of course...Candy Dots are the perfect finishing touch!

If you are wondering, I used a die to make the stitching on the sentiment layer. It's the Stitched Mats - Squares Die by 'Lil Inker Designs. It was the perfect accent piece for this card.

Happy Birthday Josh!!

Today my family and I will be celebrating my eldest son's 26th birthday. The time has just flown by...

A handmade birthday card for a 26 year old male can be tricky so I just browsed through my supplies and grabbed things that I thought 'looked' like him. This stamp set, Birthday Surprise, is just amazing. It has a nice big graphic birthday sentiment and four accompanying images that are also a bit rough and graphic. Perfect!

I stamped the sentiment onto my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig and then placed the image over my white cardstock so I could get a good picture of where I might want my balloons to be and then I just stamped away until I was happy! I grabbed colors that I thought said "Josh"; Bermuda Bay, Island Indigo, Old Olive and Rich Razzleberry! To prevent the colors of my balloons bleeding through my sentiment, I stamped it in Versamark Ink and heat embossed it in Black Embossing Powder.

I then layered the stamped cardstock onto coordinating cardstock and adhered to my card base. EZ Peasy!

A coordinating enveloped lined with Rich Razzleberry, of course, and a cute sentiment to finish off the inside:

It just occurred to me that my son and Stampin' Up! are about the same age, lol. Where has the time gone? Seems like just yesterday....

Godspeed - CTS #89

I saw this challenge sketch from CAS(E) This Sketch and was immediately intrigued...

Sometimes my inspiration for a card is a piece of Designer Series Paper, or perhaps Washi Tape, sometimes a color scheme, sometimes a stamp set. I just randomly move around my craft space looking at things until I feel that spark. After pondering the sketch throughout my day, I came home and started perusing my recent stamp set purchases. I pulled out this one, then that one, feeling little sparks, when my hands came across the For Your Country stamp set. I glanced at the images and that spark hit me...actually today it was more like a lightening bolt...and I saw the completed card quite clearly in my mind.

This is what I saw:

What do you think? I think this one image, one word, combined with the color scheme, really send a powerful message. Honestly, as simple as this card is, it's complete. And so it stands, a prayer for the safe return of our loved ones.

The colors I chose for this project are Sahara Sand, Basic Black, Early Expresso and Mossy Meadow. I heat embossed both the image and the sentiment with Black Embossing Powder. I used Stampin' Dimensionals to pop the image layer off off the card base and then then sentiment as well. Both provide depth and give interest to this quite clean and simple card.
